General Update: Programme & Venues 22 Sep 2018 @ 13:06

General Update Hi Folks. Three weeks to go now until kick off and so we thought we’d share an update with you. We are quite excited that the same week as our event the UK Pro Tour will also be in Thurso. Having talked to Dave Reed the organiser and the Scottish Surf Federation, we think that this could make for a pretty special week to be in Thurso. We discussed how we might use venues and there is little conflict (Please see section on venues that follows). So here is a programme for the week that we will update and add to nearer the date. The competition days are of course condition dependent and we reserve the right to adjust the timings and running order. We are aware of a number of Brit only entries and plan to take into account their later arrival. Date Day Evening 14th October Sunday Registration & Boat Scrutineering for Homes & Brits (afternoon) Any changes to the Homes Teams to be notified Opening Ceremony at the Weigh Inn. General Competition briefing 15th Monday Homes 16th Tuesday Homes Brits – late arrival registration 17th Wednesday Brits 18th Thursday Brits 19th Friday Brits Closing Ceremony at the Weigh Inn 20th Saturday Spare Competition Day

Likely Competition Venues Our favoured venue for the competition is The Shit Pipe in Thurso. This venue gives us an excellent wave that is also manageable for a range of abilities. It has the advantage of being a good spectator venue giving lots of parking, access to toilets, and easy walking to shops and cafes. If the swell doesn’t get into Thurso bay, then we will need to be mobile. This is something that we have done on a number of occasions for the Scottish Championships and it has worked well. So other venues we might use are: Farr Bay near Bettyhill. This bay picks up a lot of westerly swell and can often give a good wave. Please can we ask that if you go to Farr before or during the competition that we all park at the eastern end of the bay behind the Farr Bay Inn. This avoids parking in front of locals houses and gives a nice walk down through the dunes. The FBI plan to be open for coffee etc if we use this break during the comp. https://www.farrbayinn.co.uk/ Farr Bar Inn – preferred parking behind the pub

We may if forced by conditions also use a couple of other beach venues – Dunnet Bay and Reiss Beach in Sinclair Bay. Dunnet Bay to the east of Thurso has multiple beach options with parking. Reiss is the access point next to the golf course in the southern end of Sinclair Bay. Please park sensitively here away from the clubhouse. UK Pro Tour In return for our favoured venues we have agreed that we will avoid the Pro Tours favoured breaks in the lead up to and during their event. There is a possibility that we may use Thurso East at the end of our comp. However, if East is working then it is likely that Shit Pipe will still be our favoured break. The UK Tours preferred breaks are Thurso East followed by Brims Ness. If conditions are very limited, then we may agree to share the larger beach breaks of Dunnet and Reiss. General Tourist Information and Social Activities We will post further information about this soon. Communication During the competition as you know updates / changes are likely and so there will be a need to be at the break. Beyond this we plan to use our Facebook page as the main online source of updates https://www.facebook.com/groups/surfkayakscotland/ please join the group if you are not already a member.

Individual entries now re-opened until the end of August 13 Aug 2018 @ 21:16

Some classes in the British Championships have now been re-opened for bookings on Tournr until the end of the month

The kayak competition has had some classes re-opened but all with class maximums set and they are only available to individuals who are already part of the competition.

The Waveski class is re-opened to all. You may have seen the discussions on British Waveski FB page. There is a real opportunity to reinvigorate waveski in the UK and it is for that reason that we have made this decision. Can I please remind anyone booking that the competition will be held under the conditions as outlined on our Tournr page and that you must be a member of an NGB to compete. If you are not already part of the competition and wish to enter then this cannot be done directly through Tournr, rather you will contact Chris Skardon ( mailto:chris@tournr.com )who will work his magic with the back of the site.

Accomodation in Thurso at the centre of activities 15 Jul 2018 @ 20:49

We are very happy to announce that we have been offered discounts at the two accommodation venues in Thurso that will be at the centre of activities for our comp. The Weigh Inn http://www.weighinn.co.uk/ has offered a 20% discount for those associated with the event (just let them know on booking). We have our opening and closing ceremonies here and the food is great. Many of us will be camping close to the Weigh Inn at Thurso Bay Camping http://www.thursobaycamping.co.uk/ . They have discounted there prices to us by 10% and the Blue Door Café on site will be I'm sure our other centre of festivities.

Welcome 03 Jun 2018 @ 16:01

We would love to welcome you to our stunning world famous North Coast. We are very lucky to be able to invite you to a truly diverse surfing location from remote beaches towards the East and West to the Thurso Town Centre Reefs - we have a great selection of aspects for catching various swell directions. This gives us our most viable competitive surf location in Scotland.

You can enjoy sections of the North Coast 500 route, brilliant world leading distilleries, a large choice of accommodation options and unique areas of scenery, wildlife & fauna.

We will do our best to help ensure you have a great stay ,a great competition and have plenty of things for you, your friends and family to enjoy, if you wish, during your stay.

The plan will be to start on Sunday 14th October with Registration of you and your crafts, competitors meeting and the Opening Ceremony. The Homes Team Event will start on the Monday morning for the next few days then followed by the British Championships. Closing Party is planned for the Friday evening allowing us Saturday in case we have to run over.

The organisers retain the right to change the Homes and Brits running order depending on conditions.
