Description

Bideford Canoe Club and the England Surf Kayak Team are running a coaching weekend to help people improve their surf kayaking skills.

Paddlers will be able to try out boats from Mega Surf Kayaks demo fleet and will have the chance to be coached by members of the England Surf Kayak Team, including several British and World Champions.

The cost for the weekend is £20 per person for each day. This will help to raise money for the England team to compete in the World Surf Kayak championships in Peru in July 2019.

Saturday 6th October

  • Meet at Sandymere car park at 9.30am, aiming to be on the water at 10am.
  • Coaching sessions running throughout the day, with a quick 30 minute break for lunch.
  • Finish- 2-2.30pm as the tide will be approaching the pebble ridge.

Sunday 7th October

  • Meet at Sandymere car park at 9.30am, aiming to be on the water at 10am.
  • Coaching sessions running throughout the day, with a quick 30 minute break for lunch.
  • We will run a fun competition at the end of the day, which is a good chance to put all your new found skills into practice!
  • Finish- 3-3.30pm as the tide will be approaching the pebble ridge.

Note

This is not a beginners kayaking session and you will need to have a reliable flat water roll. It is open to Bideford and Bude Canoe Club members, along with any local or further afield kayakers that wish to improve their surf kayaking skills.

Equipment

If you have your own surf kayak or a boat that you usually surf, then please bring it along; you will still be welcome to try a Mega surf kayak but we want to make sure that everyone has a boat to surf. We can also offer coaching for wave ski paddlers, although you will need to bring your own ski.

If you have any questions, contact Emma Fishleigh.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

All participants must either be a member of Bideford Canoe Club, or have an individual British Canoeing membership. If this is not the case they can still participate if they agree to sign a Non-Member Event Insurance Form on the day, with an additional cost of £5 for the event (paid in cash on the day).

All participants must wear a buoyancy aid and helmet for the duration of the coaching sessions.

All boats must have flotation bags or full foam and ideally have end-tapes attached.

This session is not for beginners and participants need to have a reliable flat water roll.

Participants are expected to make decisions on the day suited to their abilities and surf conditions, and with safety of themselves and others in mind.
